With the HURRICANE forged wheel generation - that has been redesigned from scratch - G-POWER is making its vision of the perfect wheel come true. Technology boosts in the fields of material research, design and production have prepared the ground for G-POWER to replace the SILVERSTONE DIAMOND wheel that has been successful for years.
The result is a wheel generation of superlatives. The present G-POWER forged wheels are nothing less than the lightest, strongest and - with six different designs - most individual Aluminum wheels in the history of G-POWER. No question, equipped with these attributes this wheel collecting is truly living up to its legendary name that is well-know all over the world - HURRICANE!
The engineering process starts with a design idea that is setting new standards in terms of appearance and dynamics and at the same time offers the customer a real technical benefit, like the successful synthesis of a lightweight design and extreme rigidness. With the help of the latest technology in simulation- and 3D design-software a 3D model is generated from the design idea that is optimized by using FEM-analyses later one. In the course of the engineering process this 3D-model is virtually put under enormous stress and the resulting tensions and deformation are being calculated. The 3D wheel model is checked and rechecked again until all critical load peaks have been eliminated. This procedure of the engineering process vouches for a high-quality product and the best possible safety for all G-POWER customers.
Compared to a casted Aluminum wheel the forged Aluminum wheel is significantly lighter due to the higher strength of the forged material.
The structure of the basic material is not disconnected during the manufacturing process and at the same time the material is highly compressed, thus enforcing the strength of the material and so founding the basis for a lightweight, yet strong wheel design.
And the lighter the wheel the lower the unsprung mass, which improves the driving-dynamics: there is less mass that would affect the response of the shocks and dampening elements which improves the handling and cornering speed significantly.
In the course of the manufacturing process the T6 6061 Aluminum blank, from which each G-POWER HURRICANE wheel is created, is pressed into matrices and to form its shape. This process is carried out under enormous pressure and extreme temperatures. In the following the shaped blank is locked in forge temples that are being pressed together with 5000-8000t.
Finally the semi-finished product is undergone a so called T6 heat-treatment in order to distribute the forces within the Aluminum and to restore the characteristics of the alloy.
This forging technology used by G-POWER guaranties the optimum in terms of material density and weight of the respective wheel.
G-POWER wheels are produced on a CNC-controlled milling machine that enables G-POWER – thanks to a special designed CAD/CAM-software – to realise its vision of the perfect wheel. For the production of the G-POWER HURRICANE wheels only high-quality T6 6061 Aluminum is being used. This innovative light alloy is utilized in the aerospace industry as well, because of its above the average strength compared with its below the average weight.
The finish of the G-POWER wheels is the result of the so-called trowalisation process, being the latest technology for industrial polishing procedures.
In the end of the production a sophisticated, certified multi-coating process grants for a durable and long-lasting surface.
Quality is no coincidence! That is why the production of the G-POWER HURRICANE wheels is certified according to the strictest quality assurance system: ISO 9001:2008. And that means check, recheck and check again. In doing so each wheel is checked, measured and documented several times throughout the production process.
These verification processes are completed by the 3D laser measurement. Five high-resolution cameras perform a 3D scan of the wheel and in doing so collect all relevant data of the wheel. That way the smallest deviations are being detected, documented and eliminated.
This is the only way how the extreme quality standards of G-POWER can be guaranteed.
Next to the design and the used material it is the production process that is responsible for the superior quality of the G-POWER wheels and the available machinery in turn decisively determents the production process.
For example it is the CNC vertical milling machine that allows the use of an innovative clamping device that warrants for an especially low-vibration - and thus extremely precise - fabrication. Turning-operations however are processed on a special CNC lathe with an extra-large travel. That’s the only way how the G-POWER forged wheels can be fabricated with a diameter of up to 23 inches. The finishing touches are provided by trowalisation machines with the help of a mechanical- chemical procedure that trims and refines the wheel surface.
